Latvia: Prayerful Unity and Resistance

Latvia is a beautiful
nation of two million persons, sparkling like a jewel on the Baltic Sea. Like
Lithuania, Latvia belonged to the Russian Empire then Soviet Union until 1990
when she proudly declared her democratic statehood. She is unique in her
spirituality: a blend of Lutheran (Latvia is near Germany), Roman Catholic, and
Orthodox traditions. For over 20 years, Living Waters has renewed and helped unify
these ‘streams’ by offering healing for relational brokenness (often related to
past war-wounds). She now trembles as Russia pummels nearby Ukraine. Please
pray for this diverse yet remarkably unified Christian nation as Latvia prays
for the Church to shine in a dark hour. Living Waters group leader Marite writes:
Dear brothers and sisters
in Christ,
People in Latvia feel
scared and even hopeless. Elders still remember WWII and the Soviet regime.
Many people tend to find escape and kill their fear with alcohol and other
substances. Antidepressants have become like a daily bread for too many. We
need Christ and faith more than ever.

Matthew 10:32 says: “So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will
acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven”
Dear Lord, we thank you that 2000 years ago you won the war over sin and death.
We thank you that you promised to be with us until the end of time. We bring to
Your presence all our fears and ask you to wake up Christians: give us courage
to witness and to serve our neighbor. We ask for forgiveness of the sins of our
nation. We rebuke the spirit of fear, hate, and every idolatry. Please, unify Latvians,
Ukrainians, Russians and Belorussians into prayerful nations that acknowledge
Christ as their Savior. May we win the battle on our knees.
In the name of Jesus
Christ.
Amen.
