‘As aliens, live in reverent fear’ (1 Pet 1:17)

One ominous agenda item of Kamala’s? Eliminate the filibuster in the Senate as to legislate the most radical, far-reaching abortion laws in USA history.

Really. No hyperbole: evasive Harris has made streamlining the Senate one of her most concrete goals. Why?  Clear the way for abortion. Let me explain:

The filibuster rule in the Senate (100 votes total) requires that legislation gets 60 votes to cut off debate and move to a vote, rather than a simple majority of 51. A filibuster effectively gives the minority vote power to negotiate. That power matters on controversial issues like abortion; it promotes cooperation between both parties and guards against partisan whiplash and dysfunction.

Bring on the whiplash. Kamala seeks to not only ‘put back’ the benefits of Roe v. Wade, she wants to exceed them, nationally. Walz and Harris both co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) during their respective stints in Congress. The bill creates a federal right to abortion at any stage of pregnancy, for any reason, effectively imposing no-limits abortion on all 50 states.

A barrier to such radical measures as the WHPA? The filibuster. To dissolve it, Harris would need the cooperation of a Democratic House and Senate. That’s a big ask. But anything is possible in this strangest of elections.

What we can count on: Kamala is unabashedly the most radical proponent of abortion our country has ever experienced. And she is focused: Harris will blow up bridges of negotiation and moderation like the filibuster to achieve her end.

Respected for his bipartisan negotiations, outgoing Senator Joe Manchin staunchly defends the filibuster and declared that its dissolution ‘would destroy this country.’ He is equally clear on Kamala’s eye on the WHPA prize: ‘They’re trying to make people believe that this is the same thing as codifying Roe v. Wade…This is not the same. It expands abortion.’

‘Jesus, we cry out for guards on our system to restrain abortion. Our eyes on Your prize: prenatal personhood. May we not shrink back but stand firm to defend a child’s right to life against adult liberties.’

‘Jesus, You are the King, and we are first citizens of Your Kingdom. Would you free us for You in this election season, not to hide but to shine? You’ve always asked nothing less from Your elect whom You have made ‘strangers in a strange land’ (Ex. 2:22). Here we are, a people who don’t know what to do but who look and listen to our King.?

“Father of all holiness,
guide our hearts to You.
Keep in the light of Your Truth
all those You have freed from the darkness of unbelief.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.”’
Amen
