Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the internship?
With few exceptions, the internship starts in June and lasts for 12 months.
Where would I live?
The Desert Stream internship program does not provide housing. We will be glad to assist you in finding housing. There are many affordable housing opportunities in the Kansas City area that would range in cost for $300/month to live with a family to $1000/month for a three bedroom home (not including utilities).
Do I need a car?
There is limited public transportation in Kansas City and we do not provide transportation. It is optimum to have access to a car during the internship. If that is not possible (especially for non-US interns), we will try to work with you in arranging transportation.
How much money will I need? Does Desert Stream provide any financial assistance?
Living expenses vary from person to person. They could be as low as $700/month for a single person to as high as $2000/month for a family. Desert Stream does not provide any financial assistance to interns.
We urge all interns to have raise support for their internship. Many seek funding through their home churches, their local community, family and friends. The Intern Director will work with the interns about any way in which Desert Stream can help in the fundraising process.
What about my social needs?
We will make every effort to welcome you and help in the adjustment to a new environment. While our staff is close, the majority of our fellowship takes place during the workweek. Please know that the DS staff should not be your only source of social interaction and community.
Do I need a computer?
We have computers in our office for office work. We would prefer that the office computers not be used for personal business. It is recommended that each intern have access to a computer outside of the DS office.
What do I do when I get to Kansas City?
Your arrival plans will be worked out with the Intern Director once you are accepted into the program?
Once I apply, can I start raising money?
Please do not make any arrangements until you are accepted into the internship program. Once you have been accepted into the Internship program you will be instructed regarding raising financial support.

Please consider all of this information and pray! Also please take into account the following questions:
What is your vision for using what you will learn during your internship for the future?
Do you have a local church to return to after the internship that wants you to establish Desert Stream programs there? If there are already programs established in your geographic area, are you working in conjunction with those local leaders?
If you feel that the Lord is confirming your desire to do a Desert Stream internship, please complete the application. Our Intern Director will contact you once the evaluation process is underway.
